Texans could be facing tougher penalties for DWI convictions if they have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher.
A new DWI law that went into effect on September 1, 2011 doubles the penalties for first-time DWI offenders who have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher.
The maximum penalty has increased from a maximum of 180 days in jail and/or a $2000 fine, to a maximum of 360 days in jail and/or a $4000 fine.
